• Both parties appear together at the county clerk’s office 

• Provide a proof of identity using documents approved by state law

• Not be divorced within the last 30 days

• A marriage license is valid for 89 days from the date it is issued

• There is a required 3-day waiting period between the time a marriage license is obtained and the ceremony.

• The couple must appear in person and bring valid picture identification to the County Clerk’s Office to apply for a marriage license.

• Marriage licenses are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. If you do not get married within 90 days, the license will no longer be valid.

• The marriage license is valid anywhere in the state.

When do you sign the marriage license? At the ceremony or beforehand?

I arrive early to your ceremony to go over last-minute details and also complete and sign the marriage license. This allows you to celebrate at the conclusion of your ceremony with no interruption for signing documents.

Many of your state and U.S. government name change forms must be filed with a certified marriage record as legal proof of your marriage. Your certified marriage record can also be used as proof of marriage for insurance purposes. It is suggested that you obtain 2-3 certified marriage licenses.
